Your Child's Success as a Learner

Kia ora koutou katoa
Welcome to the Hibiscus Kindergarten and Nursery, on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast.
The ECE service has been constructed around one of the first colonial houses in the Stanmore Bay locality, and the interior of this home gives a strong vintage theme to the design features of this kindergarten and nursery. A beautifully presented garden is at the heart of our center.
Our kindergarten caters to two to five-year-olds in the spacious character building which offers open learning spaces for different age groups. A separate, tranquil cottage is our infant space for 3 months to 2-year-olds with the ambiance of a home, inviting new mothers to be part of the attachment transition between their babies and our nurturing, expert teachers.

Philosophy
At Hibiscus Kindergarten and Nursery, we believe that each child is unique with their own strengths, abilities, and preferences for learning. We promote and acknowledge parents as the first educators of children; teachers the second. Quality education is achieved through a positive learning partnership between family, children, and teachers. We work alongside parents and whānau in their child’s individualised learning journey.
The centre’s environment is the third teacher. Our Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy focuses on the natural world and coastal environment within Stanmore Bay. This locality is the stimulus for our learning programmes based on NZ’s Early Childhood Curriculum: Te Whāriki. The centre is very well resourced and equipped to deliver a high-quality local curriculum. We recognize the diversity of our community and value the cultural backgrounds of all children and their families. We are inclusive and welcoming.
We uphold and affirm actively the cultural identities and languages of our children so that they feel a secure sense of belonging in our centre. The Treaty of Waitangi is intrinsic to our teachers’ practice, and we honour Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa. For this reason, Māori children hold a unique place within our centre. We are developing integrated bicultural practice centred on te reo me ngā tikanga Māori led by our Māori teacher. This is our commitment to the partnership obligations in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
As espoused in Te Whāriki we work towards all children growing up as competent and confident learners, secure in their sense of wellbeing and in the knowledge that they are taking ownership of their own learning. We recognize the importance of responsive and reciprocal learning relationships between teachers, parents and children. We foster children’s interest in learning by offering a curriculum that empowers them to build and extend their knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions to become successful learners as they transition to school.
Our knowledgeable and experienced teachers engage in ongoing leadership programmes, professional development and reflect on their practice for continuous improvement. Hibiscus Kindergarten and Nursery provides high quality coaching and mentoring opportunities to ensure teachers are working collaboratively within their teams and are equipped with early childhood education theory that is up to date and relevant for all children in our local community. We look forward to the privilege of being part of your child’s individual learning journey.
